Portugal is recognized as a Roman Catholic country and for this reason Protestant churches are NOT licensed for marriages. Couples who wish to have an Anglican wedding may prefer to first get married in their country and then have a blessing ceremony in Portugal. Although your marriage will not be legally binding, you may still have a symbolic blessing in a lovely Protestant church, chapel or anywhere else you wish. Most pastors are willing to travel to your venue, whether it is your hotel or an old castle in the countryside.
Protestant blessings are very simple; nevertheless the Portuguese pastor may want to correspond with you via email before the event. If you are divorced, please inform your wedding planner who will then verify if there are any impediments to a Protestant ceremony being performed. |
